Lemongrass is renowned for its antifungal and antibacterial properties which can be particularly useful for topical applications on pets to encourage healing, reduce irritation of skin and even as insect repellent. May have some sedative properties.
Botanical name: Cymbopogon citratus
Native to: Southern India and Sri Lanka
Status: Organic
Caution: The plant and plant oils are toxic to animals and may cause diarrhoea, vomiting, high temperatures, lethargy, convulsions, difficulty breathing and weakness.
Cats: May relieve skin irritation and act as insect repellent as infusion applied to skin and fur.
Dogs: Not commonly used for ingestion, but may be applied externally to reduce infections and as insect repellent.
Rabbits: Dried Lemongrass is a great dried herb treat for rabbits that can be added to your rabbits hay pile and spread around their enclosure. Feed all treats for your rabbit sparingly.
